Paintings that reflect the best work of Airline High School art students have found a new home at Greenacres Middle School.

"This involves some incredible students in our district," said Greenacres librarian Tracie Woodruff. "Earlier this year, I contacted Janice Melancon, the art teacher at Airline High School, about having some paintings done for our library at Greenacres. She chose a select group of her top art students to create the paintings, which were completed in February."

According to Woodruff, the art students did an incredible job and they did not ask for anything in return.

She said she got the idea to use artwork from Airline students because she had seen their work before and thought it was amazing. When Woodruff was tasked to take over the library, she had the walls painted and started from scratch on a new, fresh look.

She then brought the décor together with the colorful artwork of the students.

The Airline art students included Christina Bodden, penguins; Jabrandon Chism, rose; Christian Gaude, fox; Nicole Kempf, dogs; Bo Kim, abstract; Lily Vanegas, sunset/water; Amy Barmes, seasons; Lexie Hutchins, tree with clock; Cassie Lites, octopus; Alaina Proctor, forest trees looking up; and Gina Vaca, fall leaves.

"All I did was buy the supplies," Woodruff said. "I figured if you don't ask, you don't get what you need."

"The artwork on the walls is a mixture and they're amazing," Woodruff said. "My library is now decorated with the fantastic creations. Many of these students are graduating this year and going on to college to major in art."
